Seems like if you live in Maryland, like I do, you cannot sign up to the UMOO website, hence cannot join the challenge... Dont understand why, but there are only 35 states that can be selected.

absurd gambling rules, funny that anyone can use 10,50, 100x leverage in forex but some dont allow simple games...pathetic

The problem with these virtual trading games is that they don't really model the market that well. It's pretty much impossible for them to account for real trading dynamics such as slippage, brokerage-dependant factors like short share availablity, difficuly in buying large blocks at ideal prices. In these games you can easily "cheat" by say, trading penny stocks in totally unreasonble sized lots or shorting stuff that would not be available to short in the real market.

I think the best way to make these as realistic as possible is to only use opening and closing prices (i.e. no day trades) and limit the size of trades based on the average daily volume of the stock (i.e...if the stock trades less than 100K, limit size of lots to 1K). The issue regarding shorting is difficult to program, as that is largely broker-dependent.

I signed up to UMOO a couple of weeks ago, but only played once. Only thing available are s&p 500 stocks like Tim said. Kind of pointless to what we do here.

Yeah it doesn't relate to penny stocking but hell its a contest to try and win some real money. There are 800 plus alert subscribers. Lets say 25% actually enter the contest. Thats pretty decent odds for winning $10,000.
